Late night practice

Some nights sleep escapes me.  I can't rest.  So, when I can't sleep, I practice a little bit.  This is from one of my late night practice sessions this weekend.  Every brush stroke counts toward the 10,000 strokes that I am working on.

Conversation

I painted these birds while "Up North"
at my brothers cottage. It was so beautiful floating on the lake.

Back in the studio

After a wonderful vacation in Wisconsin visiting family and friends, I am back in the studio.  I wiped off the cobwebs from my brushes and moistened my paints.  I am a little rusty but back in the stroke of things.  Be patient, there are many more works of love coming.

Took some time off and gathered my thoughts. I've been working in my yard. The weather here in Virginia has been wonderful. I keep waiting for my humming bird to come back.

Sunflowers

Our subject in class last week was sunflowers. I was inspired by Lian Quen Zhen's painting and did my best to get close. Such a happy flower.

Snow geese watercolor

Two weeks ago, I took a a class from a wonderful teacher, Lian Quan Zhen.  I started this watercolor during his class and I just finished it tonight.  I am so pleased with the finished art.  It just goes to show that when you have a wonderful, affirming teacher, learning is easy.

I am so happy with this one, I added it to my ETSY shop.  It's available as a foldover note card.

Lian Quan Zhen Workshop

Lian Quan Zhen signing his book for me.
What a delightful week this has been so far.  I have been attending a workshop with Lian Quan Zhen along with members of the National Capital Sumi-e Society. What a wonderful teacher he is.  His philosophy is "A beautiful painting depicts the harmony between nature and imagination." I agree!!

I've learned so much in just three days.  It's intense and I love it.

I can't wait to show you what I've learned.  I'll post some of my work from his workshop soon.

It's exciting.

Butterfly

We got back last night from our Easter trip to Florida. The weather there was warm and sunny. Perfect weather for flowers and butterflies. I am painting as much as I can getting ready for the Potomac Bonsai Festival.

Iris and Butterfly

I feel like I'm under pressure for the Bonsai Festival. Which is good because it makes me paint. This is also one of my favorite subjects.

Come to the Potomac Bonsai Festival

http://www.usna.usda.gov/Education/events.html#May

For complete details on the Potomac Bonsai Festival go HERE. I will be there displaying my original Chinese Brush Art painting and will have some of my art available for sale as prints and note cards.

There are a number of workshops available where bonsai experts will help you get started in this wonderful art form.  Experts are coming from across the U.S. to help foster bonsai's popularity.

This Spring Bonsai Festival lasts for three days and consists of a bonsai show, a regional juried show, a new talent competition, beginner and intermediate/advanced workshops, bonsai demonstrations and a bonsai vendor bazaar. The vendor bazaar provides bonsai artists and any visitors the opportunity to purchase bonsai, plant material, tools, and pots related to the art and horticulture of bonsai.

Don't miss it.
